About Us

Serving Since 1948

Our Story

Our late father, Jerry O’Driscoll, who was originally from Cunnomor, started the business in 1948 in Pic du Jer Stores (now The Golden Fry fastfood premises). He expanded and moved to the current location on the Ballinlough Road in 1954.

Jerry had a strong sense of, and pride in, the community, and was involved in the start of a number of local services such as the credit union, community centre, meals on wheels, schools, etc. The sense of pride and community spirit along with the business passed to Brendan and Neil, who continue to support local sports clubs, schools, charities, community events and, most importantly, the residents, providing invaluable services to, among others, the elderly.

We remain an independent family-run business, committed to providing excellence in our service, and are one of the largest employers in Ballinlough with a current loyal staff of 85.

We have a country-wide reputation for providing the best quality meat, hot food and fresh local produce, an amazing array of unique artisan products, and an ever expanding ‘healthy option’ section. In addition, we are also one of the largest stockists in Ireland of wines of the world. We are dedicated to supporting small artisan suppliers and take pride in the selection we have in store that brings customers back time and time again.

The business has now expanded to include the next generation of family members, all highly trained in their respective fields, and all instilled with the same commitment to excellence of service and involvement in the community.

In effect, we are one of the few remaining independent, family-run, customer and community driven local grocery stores that everyone would love to have on their doorstep.
